UNDERSTANDING ADVERSITY: PART FOUR

UNDERSTANDING ADVERSITY: PART 4

Our Fourth Look at adversity is that, Adversity Is God’s Way Of Conquering Our Pride.

“For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.1 Samuel 15:23;

In the Bible, rebellion is another word for pride. Some kinds of pride can be good, like pride in your children's accomplishments or pride in your team performing well. But the kind of pride we are talking about here is the kind that puffs up the ego and causes one to be haughty or puffed up snobbish pompous, you get the picture.

The adversity of contention reveals pride and the adversity of destruction is the consequence of pride: Proverbs 13:10; says, “Only by pride cometh contention.” and Proverbs 16:18; says that “pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Then there is the adversity of shame that comes upon us from time to time depending on what we have done. The adversity of shame is God’s means of humbling us. It says in Proverbs 11:12; “When pride cometh, then cometh shame: but with the lowly is wisdom.” Another verse in Proverbs says,  “A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble spirit.” Proverbs 29:23. and “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.” Luke 14:11.

 But, “God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. Submit yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:6-7.

The ultimate event in human history will be when every knee shall bow before the Holy God of the universe, That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,  of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;” Philippians 2:10.

The recurring scene in heaven will be of all the redeemed on their faces before the throne of God. The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:10-11; and finally, “O come let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker.” Psalms 95:6;

There will not be any room for pride at that time. Our knees will be bent and we will be humbled and bowing down before a Heavenly God. God wants all of us to have that attitude of heart that will cause us to bow before Him now. Adversity can reveal pride and cause us to bow before Him and let Him destroy it.

Shall we pray. If you do not Know Jesus as your Savior today, I invite you to say the sinner’s prayer with me now.

Lord Jesus, I come to you today in need of a Savior. I believe you came to this earth as a man and walked among us teaching and healing and saving souls. I acknowledge today that I am a sinner and that you died for me and rose on the third day, ascended to Heaven and are seated by the Father. I ask you to forgive me of my sins and come into my life and be my savior today. I believe I am now born again and one day I will be with you forever. Thank you in Jesus name. Amen

 See you in Part 5, Have a blessed day.
